ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and other AI systems can be given human IQ tests, but the resulting scores depend heavily on the specific model, test, instructions and testing conditions.<\/p><p>Some comparisons have produced estimated IQ scores above 130 for leading AI models. Individual tests have placed versions of Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini in first place. These results do not establish that one AI has a permanently higher IQ than the others.<\/p><h2>Why AI IQ Scores Are Misleading<\/h2><p>IQ tests were created to measure certain human cognitive abilities. AI systems do not think, learn or experience the world like people do.<\/p><p>An AI may perform extremely well on:<\/p><ul><li><p>Verbal reasoning<\/p><\/li><li><p>Pattern recognition<\/p><\/li><li><p>Mathematical problems<\/p><\/li><li><p>General knowledge<\/p><\/li><li><p>Logical puzzles<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p>That same AI may misunderstand a simple question, invent a fact or fail when the wording changes slightly.<\/p><p>There is also a contamination problem. Many public IQ tests and their answers appear online. An AI may have encountered the questions or similar examples during training. In that case, the test may partly measure recognition rather than reasoning.<\/p><p>Private or newly created tests reduce that problem, but they still measure performance on one group of questions. They do not produce a complete measurement of an AI system\u2019s intelligence.<\/p><h2>Different Tests Produce Different Winners<\/h2><p>AI models have different strengths.<\/p><p>Claude may perform better on one reasoning or reading test. ChatGPT may lead on another test involving general knowledge or problem solving. Gemini may do better when visual information, large amounts of context or access to current information matters.<\/p><p>This is why the answer to <a href=\"https:\/\/frankmasotti.com\/insights\/which-ai-is-ranked-the-highest\/\">which AI is ranked the highest<\/a> changes depending on the benchmark being used.<\/p><p>It is also why a list of the <a href=\"https:\/\/frankmasotti.com\/insights\/what-are-the-top-3-ai-right-now\/\">top three AI systems<\/a> should not be treated as an IQ ranking. Overall usefulness includes accuracy, reasoning, writing, research, document analysis, speed and consistency.<\/p><p>No single IQ number captures all of that.<\/p><h2>Does a Higher AI IQ Mean Better Answers?<\/h2><p>Not necessarily.<\/p><p>An AI can score well on a controlled test and still provide an inaccurate answer about a person, company or situation. Test performance does not guarantee that the system found the correct information, interpreted it properly or understood what the user actually needed.<\/p><p>In my own work comparing ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, I regularly see one model recognize information that another misses. I also see models emphasize different facts or reach different conclusions from similar public information.<\/p><p>That does not mean one model is generally smarter. It means <a href=\"https:\/\/frankmasotti.com\/insights\/why-do-ai-models-describe-businesses-differently\/\">AI models can understand the same subject differently<\/a>.<\/p><p>For a business owner, the practical question is not which AI has the highest estimated IQ. The better question is whether the AI being used can understand the business correctly, answer the specific question accurately and produce a useful result.<\/p><p>If you want to know what AI understands about your company, asking only the supposed smartest model can leave important differences hidden. That is why I recommend asking <a href=\"https:\/\/frankmasotti.com\/insights\/which-ai-should-i-ask-about-my-business\/\">ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini about your business<\/a> instead of relying on a single system.<\/p><h2>The Bottom Line<\/h2><p>There is no universally accepted AI IQ ranking. Any claim that one AI has the highest IQ should be tied to a specific model, test and date.<\/p><p>AI IQ tests can provide an interesting comparison of reasoning performance.
