AI may think your business does something different from what you actually do.

Category confusion is the most common and most expensive misreading I find. A model may recognize your company name but place you in the wrong industry, mistake you for a related type of business, or describe your services too broadly to be useful.

For example, a business that serves a specific type of customer may be described as serving everyone. A company with a specialized service may be grouped with a larger, more general category. A local business may be presented as a national company, or the other way around.

Those mistakes matter because the category AI assigns to your business shapes the rest of its answer. It affects which questions it connects you to, which competitors it compares you with, and whether it considers your business relevant when someone asks for a recommendation.

The problem is not always a completely false statement. Sometimes AI gets the basic facts right but still misses the point of the business. It may know what you sell without understanding who it is for, why someone chooses you, or what makes your company different.

That is why looking at a single AI answer is not enough. The report compares how ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude describe your business, where they agree, where they differ, and whether the overall picture matches the business you actually run.

Once you can see what AI appears to think your business does, you can identify whether there is a real category problem or whether its understanding is clear.
