Which AI is ranked the highest?

There is no single AI that ranks highest on every test. Claude Opus 5 currently holds the number one position on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, while other rankings can produce different leaders depending on whether they measure human preference, coding, factual knowledge, speed, cost, or another capability.

Why AI rankings give different answers

AI models are tested in different ways. A model that ranks first for overall reasoning may not rank first for coding, factual accuracy, or responses preferred by human users.

For example:

  • Overall intelligence: Artificial Analysis currently ranks Claude Opus 5 first with an Intelligence Index score of 63.

  • Factual knowledge: A separate Artificial Analysis knowledge benchmark places Claude Fable 5 ahead of Claude Opus 5.

  • Human preference: Arena style rankings use people choosing between AI responses rather than relying only on benchmark tests. Those results can produce a different order among Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, and other models.

  • Coding and specialized tasks: Models can move considerably in the rankings when the test is limited to a particular type of work.

This is why statements such as “Claude is number one” or “ChatGPT is the best AI” need context. They may be correct according to one measurement and incorrect according to another.

Which AI is the best overall?

If the question specifically means which AI model currently scores highest on a broad independent intelligence benchmark, the answer is Claude Opus 5. Artificial Analysis currently gives it the highest overall Intelligence Index score.

That does not automatically make Claude Opus 5 the best choice for every user or every task. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and other leading systems each perform differently depending on what they are asked to do.

The more useful question is not simply which AI ranks highest. It is which AI ranks highest for the job you need it to perform.
