AI Search Engine by Frank Masotti

An AI search engine changes what happens when someone searches for information about a business.

Instead of entering a few keywords and choosing from a list of links, a potential customer can ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, or another AI system a detailed question about a company, service, product, industry, or buying decision.

They can ask what a business does, what it is known for, who it serves, how it compares with competitors, whether it provides a particular service, and whether it should be considered for a specific need.

The AI system can then interpret the question and produce an answer based on what it currently understands and the information available to it.

That creates an important question for any business:

What does an AI search engine actually understand about your company?

How Does an AI Search Engine Understand a Business?

An AI search engine does not necessarily describe a business the same way the business describes itself.

AI systems can form their own interpretation from websites, available web information, recognized entities, categories, attributes, products, services, locations, third party information, and other information available to the model.

That interpretation can affect the answer produced when someone asks about the business.

An AI system may understand the company clearly. It may understand some parts correctly while leaving out others. It may associate the business with attributes the company considers important, or completely miss them.

Different AI systems can also form different interpretations of the same company.

ChatGPT may recognize something Gemini does not. Gemini may associate a business with attributes Claude does not mention. Claude may describe a service or specialty differently from either of the other models.

There is no reason to assume that one answer from one AI system represents how the business is understood everywhere.

What Can People Ask an AI Search Engine About Your Business?

AI search allows people to ask much more specific questions than simply searching for a company name.

Someone may ask which businesses provide a particular service.

They may ask which company appears appropriate for a particular situation.

They may compare two or more businesses.

They may ask about specialties, products, service areas, customer types, experience, reputation, price positioning, or other attributes that matter to their decision.

They can also continue the conversation with follow up questions that narrow what they are looking for.

For a business, that means AI search is not only about whether the company is mentioned. It is also about what the AI system understands well enough to say about it.

AI Search Engine Audit

An AI Search Engine Audit examines that understanding.

I manually evaluate how ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude understand a business, how they describe it, what they associate with it, what they leave out, where they disagree, and whether they recognize the company in relevant recommendation situations.

This is not an audit of whether a company uses artificial intelligence.

It is not an automated website scan.

It is not a traditional SEO audit.

It is an examination of the business as major AI systems currently understand it.

What I Look For

When I evaluate how AI search engines understand a business, I look at areas including:

  • How AI describes the business
  • What category the business is associated with
  • What products or services the models recognize
  • Which attributes AI associates with the company
  • What important information is missing
  • Where ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude disagree
  • Whether important details are misunderstood
  • How consistently the business is represented across models
  • Whether the company appears in relevant recommendation situations
  • How AI explains the business when compared with competitors
  • Whether the models appear confident or uncertain about the company

The purpose is to understand the current interpretation before deciding what, if anything, deserves attention.

Why AI Search Engine Understanding Matters

A company’s website explains the business from the company’s point of view.

An AI search engine can produce its own explanation.

That distinction matters because the person asking the question may receive the AI generated explanation before visiting the company’s website, or without visiting the website at all.

If the AI system correctly understands the business, its answer may accurately reflect what the company does and who it serves.

If its understanding is incomplete, outdated, inconsistent, or wrong, the answer can reflect those problems as well.

A business therefore has two different questions to consider:

What information have we published about ourselves?

And:

What have AI search engines concluded from the information available to them?

Those are not necessarily the same thing.

The Frank Masotti AI Business Understanding Report

I examine this through the Frank Masotti AI Business Understanding Report.

The report is a $495 one time manual analysis of what ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude currently understand about a business.

I evaluate the models independently and compare the important agreements, disagreements, omissions, misunderstandings, attributes, recognition patterns, and recommendation behavior I find.

The report also includes strategic observations and recommendations based on the findings.

There is no automated scanner involved.

There is no recurring subscription.

There is no software dashboard.

Each business is evaluated individually.

You can read more about how the report works, review completed AI Business Understanding Reports, or see exactly what you are buying.

The completed report is delivered as a PDF, usually the next business day after the analysis is completed.

One Business. Three AI Models. One Manual Analysis.

AI search engines do not always understand or describe the same business the same way.

That is why I do not rely on a single model.

ChatGPT may recognize something Gemini misses.

Gemini may associate the business with attributes Claude does not.

Claude may explain the company differently from either of the others.

Those differences are part of the analysis.

The objective is to build a clearer picture of how the business is currently understood across three major AI systems rather than treating one response from one model as definitive.

You can read more about why I use three AI models.

Manual Analysis, Not an Automated AI Search Tool

Automated tools can run large numbers of prompts, collect mentions, calculate visibility scores, and monitor changes over time.

That is not what I am selling.

I read the responses myself, compare the models, identify the patterns, examine the differences, and write the conclusions.

There is no automated score attempting to reduce AI understanding of a business to a single number.

The objective is diagnosis.

Before trying to change how AI understands a business, I believe it makes sense to find out what the major AI systems currently understand.

AI Search Engines by Business Type

AI search is not the same for every industry.

Someone searching for a medical practice may care about specialties, services, insurance, location, patient needs, or professional qualifications.

Someone searching for a financial advisor may ask about services, client types, investment approach, credentials, specialties, or who the advisor appears best suited to serve.

A person looking for a plumber, law firm, accounting firm, restaurant, manufacturer, insurance agency, or real estate brokerage can ask entirely different questions.

The information an AI search engine needs to understand correctly therefore depends heavily on the type of business being discussed.

For that reason, I publish individual AI Search Engine articles for specific business types.

Each article examines the kinds of information AI systems may need to understand about that particular industry, the questions potential customers may ask, and the interpretation problems that could matter when AI is used for business research, comparison, discovery, or recommendations.

Find Out What AI Search Engines Understand About Your Business

You do not have to guess what ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude currently understand about your company.

I can examine it directly.

The Frank Masotti AI Business Understanding Report gives you a manual analysis of how the three models interpret your business, where they agree, where they differ, what they recognize, what they leave out, and what they may be getting wrong.

3 models. 1 analyst. 1 report.
